Rumors that Rudy will endorse McCain...

But didn't Rush Limbaugh say that Fred, Willard, and Rudy were the only conservative candidates? Why is Rush's "conservative" pick endorsing a "liberal" in Limbaugh's estimation?

Of course, perhaps he'll claim that the endorsement is "irrelevant". It wouldn't be the first such endorsement of this primary....

The Sunshine State Votes

Here's one of the most recent polls heading into the Florida primary held today. It would be really a big surprise/shocker if Huckabee could finish ahead of Guiliani tonight as this poll shows although it is unlikely to actually happen.

Insider Advantage GOP Florida Primary

  • John McCain 31% (28%)
  • Mitt Romney 30% (27%)
  • Mike Huckabee 15% (13%)
  • Rudy Giuliani 13% (16%)
  • Ron Paul 2% (4%)
  • Other 2% (3%)
  • Undecided 7% (9%)

Survey of 813 registered Florida voters who have already voted by early or absentee in the Florida Republican presidential primary, or who plan to vote was conducted January 28. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.4%. Results from the poll conducted January 27 are in parentheses.

GravelZoom!

Looking for the true candidate of change? Well, look no farther than Democrat Mike Gravel! His widespread popularity nationwide, and in fact worldwide, has propelled him to frontrunner status in the 08 election. In fact, the explosion of support for his candidacy is now termed the Gravelboom (see his amazing poll numbers here). Some of his popularity no doubt is due to his deeply held belief that caucuses are abominations!

He said, "If Russia ran elections like we do in the U.S, we'd be criticizing Russia. If you saw how bad these caucuses were, as far as how undemocratic, . . . it's an abomination."

Wow, you could run on just that alone. No wonder he's been whipping Hillary & Obama in the polls. Most American think caucuses are abominations and want a president that shares that belief but until now, no candidate was willing to take the position for some strange reason.

Here's another one of his stunning and extremely controversial ads.

See Gravel's official campaign website here. This guy is going to take the race to convention and win it! Obama, Hillary and Edwards, this guy is your worst nightmare...

Obama Wins South Carolina

...by a lot.

With 98% of the votes in, the results are as below (screen shot from cnn.com, get the updated numbers here).

John Edwards probably should dropout tomorrow due to his terrible numbers (18%) in a state neighboring the one where he was born... but he won't. Hillary also has to take quite a hit from this loss and she can't just say that she didn't try to win South Carolina because it wasn't too long ago that she was up by over 20% points in some polls over Obama there. In fact, going in to Super Tuesday, this loss could be fatal for the Clinton's. Momentum is HuGE in politics and Hillary doesn't have much MO right now and Obama does have it. In my view, the "slum lord" comment about Obama in the CNN debate last Monday really hurt her.

Stay tuned.

Update: Apparently Bill Clinton is trying to play off the SC results by saying that the Hillary lost because the South Carolina back population is raciest (only voted for Obama because he was black). He said quote, "Jesse Jackson won South Carolina in '84 and '88. Jackson ran a good campaign. And Obama ran a good campaign here."Yeah, maybe if Obama won by less then 10% points he might have had a point but Obama crushed Hillary by more than 25% points not 10. Bill can say whatever he wants but it wasn't just black people voting for Obama and the overwhelming numbers prove it. Maybe even some democrats just don't like Hillary?

Giants & Patriots

ESPN rated the players on the Patriots and Giants rosters from best players to worst players and some of it doesn't add up. For instance, does anyone really think that Michael Strahan is really a better player then Asante Samuel or Mike Vrabel? Or that Plaxico Burress is more valuable then Wes Welker? Come on...

Top Ten
1: Tom Brady
2: Randy Moss
3: Osi Umenyiora
4: Richard Seamour
5: Michael Strahan
6: Plaxico Burress
7: Logan Makins
8: Asante Samuel
9: Mike Vrabel
10: Chris Snee

I suppose they got the top two right... but the list does seem to have a bias towards defensive ends (Richard Seamour when healthy is one of the best players in the NFL but this year wasn't much of an impact player due to injuries and certainly isn't the 4th best player between the two teams). Other stuff from the list; Adalius Thomas is ranked 27th, yep, five slots behind Teddy Bruschi (22) and seven behind Antonio Pierce (20). Question, if a GM of a NFL team was offered Pierce or Thomas which player would they pick? Hmmm.... not that hard... other then the Al Davis hijacked controlled Raiders, every other team, including the Giants, would gladly take Thomas any day over Pierce.

Tash's Top Ten
1: Tom Brady
2: Randy Moss
3: Asante Samuel
4: Osi Umenyiora
5: Vince Wilfork
6: Wes Welker
7: Plaxico Burress
8: Mike Vrabel
9: Logan Makins
10: Dan Koppen

Mass Mess

Mitt Romney's Health Care plan creates havoc in Massachusetts.

From CBN News
"According to recent reports, the cost of Massachusetts' health insurance mandate will rise 85 percent, or $400 million, in 2009. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (R), meanwhile, has been on the presidential campaign trail praising the program he put into place."

the article goes on to state,
"Carmen Balber, a consumer advocate at Foundation for Taxpayer and Consumer Rights, added, "What we've seen happen in Massachusetts is that lots of people are signing up for subsidized care," although "just 7 to 8 percent of the people who have newly signed up for health insurance have enrolled in a program they must pay full price for."

Tanner told Cybercast News Service that the state will likely need to raise taxes to cover the additional costs."

Willard Goes On & On & On & On Some More

Who got the most time to speak in last night's debate?

Mitt Romney 21:11 (13 opportunities)
John McCain 16:00 (13 opportunities)
Rudy Giuliani 13:50 (11 opportunities
Mike Huckabee 12:11 (9 opportunities)
Ron Paul 6:31 (6 opportunities)

ummm... yeah, it wasn't just because I'm biased against Willard that made me think that he was going on forever...

Strange...Willard apparently needs help when asked questions about his great grandfather, Ronald Reagan's record. That old tax and spender Reagan!

Good thing we have honest politicians public servants like Mitt Romney today that are willing to spend all of their wealth in order to tell us to vote for them show us the choices we have to vote for and who the really bad guys are the contrasts between the candidates…

Live Blogging of MSNBC Republican Debate 9ET

Aidan's liveblog of the debate
8:56: The candidates are entering the stage now and meeting Tim Russert
and Brian Williams, who will be moderating and asking questions in tonights debate.
Huckabee and Romney are wearing blue ties, McCain and Guiliani are wearing red ties.

9:00: Debate begins!
9:04: Romney gets the first question and steals some of Huckabee's economic lines, doesn't work as well with him though. Romney said "net-net" in his answer, which comes across very bad with a lot of people (sounds too smug). I know that because a couple of people mentioned that to me after he said it in the last debate.
9:08: McCain and Guiliani both got a question about the economy, and they didn't attack each other.
9:11:
Huckabee gets his first question about whether he trusts "Romney on taxes". He answered it well, but sounded like he has some voice problems right now.

9:13: ATTACK ALERT: Romney attacks McCain for "not supporting the Bush tax cuts before now". I guess Romney's never changed his mind on anything before.....
9:17: Ron Pa
ul gets a question about the economy.
9:19: Guiliani gets a question about investments and talks about Sadi Arabia.
9:21: Huckabee has not got a question for awhile.....around 12 minutes......McCain gives reasons why to re-elect Republicans in Nov. 2008, after they've left the country in such a mess.

9:23: Huckabee gets the same question that McCain got. He said that "the mess in Washington can't be blamed on him since he was not in Washington". He also got a good 'see I told you so' in about the economy.

9:26: Yup, Romney just said, "when Republicans act like Democrats, thats not good"....maybe he should apologize for his tenure as Mass. governor. Remember, Romney is the candidate of change, ever since it become popular after Iowa.
9:30: First Iraq question goes to McCain. He answers it well with his usual stump speech on 'the surge'.
9:31:
Romney gets another quest
ion....why is he getting so much time????
Romney tries to make a funny, but it really didn't work.
9:35:
So far not really any sparks.....Ron Paul gets some applause when he says the war was a bad idea (what else do they think he's going to say)
9:37: Huckabee gets a good answer on the Iraq War. Romney says that the war was "mismanaged", is that an attack on Bush??? How dare he...(sarcasm)...
9:38:
NBC goes to a break. Russert's microphone was on when they went to the break and you could hear him talking to Williams.
9:40: The candidates will ask each other questions in the next segment of the debate.
9:43: Romney asks a question about China trade to Guiliani.
9:46: McCain ask Huckabee about the FairTax.....nice question...
9:47: Huckabee gives a very good answer on how the FairTax encourages productivity and doesn't hurt the poor.

9:49: Huckabee answers a follow up question on the FairTax.
9:50: Paul asks McCain a civil question about the economy (good job Paul)
Huckabee had
a super funny line in the FairTax question.

9:52: Huckabee asks a question on the 2d Amendment. Romney ends up saying that he supports the 2d Amendment, but then says he supports all of these gun control bills......a very Romney answer.
9:55:
Guliani asks a question about a national catastrophe fund, and takes some shots at McCain when he asks the question.
9:57:
After Romney answered the question, McCain got to respond to Guiliani's soft attack.
10:02: McCain and Guiliani answer questions about global warming. They both say that the United States needs to take action.
10:03: MSNBC goes to a break.
10:06: WILLIAMS: "What happened to your campaign, Mr. Guiliani?" Guiliani then says he thinks he'll have the same fate as the New York Giants (who are going to the Super Bowl).....
10:09:
McCain gets ask a question by MSNBC Brian Williams about his conservativism.
10:10: Romney says that "Clinton is so out of step with the American people", so is Romney...
10:12: Romney will not tell how much money he's put in the race....Romney is getting way to much time.....
10:15: Romney gets ANOTHER question about Mormonism......the media loves to talk about this....Huckabee has more bias against him because of his faith then Romney does about his.
10:16: Ron Paul answers a question.......
10:17: Huckabee answers a question about social security....and had a funny line about Romney and his inheritance (even though I think it may have come off the wrong way).
10:22: Guiliani is asked about why he is airing ad's in Spanish, when he supports a English only policy.
10:23:
Guiliani is asked about wet foot, dry foot.......
10:26: Huckabee gets a question about McCain age...and has a good response.
10:28:
Guiliani takes a shot at The New York Times, which will endorse McCain tomorrow's.
10:31: Romney says that he is not a flip-flopper......
10:32: Huckabee gets a question about his faith.....and answers it well.
10:35:
Debate's over. The spin begins.

MSNBC GOP Debate Tonight

Some details of the MSNBC Republican debate tonight (9-10:30 PM) that will be broadcasted both on MSNBC & MSNBC.com. Although they have reason to hype it, Chuck Todd, MSNBC's top political analyst is calling the debate a do well-or-die for some candidates. Huckabee, Romney, McCain and Guiliani all need to have a great nights due to the close nature of the debate and the fact that at least 25% of Florida voters are still undecided as to who they will vote for. Expect Romney to be slammed by Huckabee and McCain and Guiliani, and for Guiliani to also attack McCain. Should be interesting...

Here's some of the details:

From Marc Ambinder's blog on the Atlantic
"The podium order for tonight's Republican presidential debate is:, from left to right, audience view: Romney, McCain, Giuliani, Paul Huckabee.

Brian Williams will be on stage left; Tim Russert will be on stage right. Twice, the audience will be brought into the conversation."

From the South Florida Sun-Sentinel
"Candidates will have no opening or closing statements. They will be allowed in one portion to question one another. They will have 90 seconds to respond to questions and 30 seconds to make rebuttals at the discretion of the moderator, Brian Williams.'

The questions will come from Williams and Tim Russert, host of Meet the Press. Leadership Florida, one of the debate sponsors, has passed along questions that were solicited from the public through its Web site."

In other news, Dennis Kucinich apparently has decided to drop out of the race. That leaves only Edwards, Hillary & Obama in the Democrat primary race. If anything, this just helps either Obama or Ron Paul.

Update on the RI Presidential Primary Ballot Status

The final numbers from the Rhode Island Secretary of State website. Hugh Cort, Alan Keyes & Duncan Hunter made it against the odds. Joe Biden just missed by less then 140 signatures and Bill Richardson didn't even come close with only 332 total signatures. Ron Paul, Hillary Clinton & Huckabee all blew everyone else out of the water in the total's count and the Republicans overall had five of their candidates with over 2,000 signatures while the Democrats only had two. Chris Dodd had enough signatures (1612) but apparently not enough of them were real or something weird so he will not appear on the ballot (he ended up pulling out of the race anyways...).

Well here's the final numbers from Ron Paul to Raymond Stebbens (and yeah, I have no idea who he is either).red stands for Republican/ blue for Democrat/ pink for Willard/ and a special real off-white for anarchist Mike Gravel

Duncan Hunter Endorses Huckabee

Representative & former 2008 presidential candidate, Duncan Hunter's, endorsement of Governor Mike Huckabee.

“I got to know Governor Huckabee well on the campaign trail. Of the remaining candidates I feel that he is strongly committed to strengthening national defense, constructing the border fence and meeting the challenge of China’s emergence as a military superpower that is taking large portions of America’s industrial base. Along with these issues of national security, border enforcement and protecting the U.S. industrial base, I see another quality of Mike Huckabee’s candidacy that compels my endorsement. Mike Huckabee is a man of outstanding character and integrity. I saw that character over the last year of campaigning and was greatly impressed. The other Republican candidates have many strengths and I wish them all well."

It had been speculated for some time that Representative Hunter would endorse Huckabee after he withdrew from the race and the speculation was right. He was actually asked by Fox News not too long ago if he would endorse Willard and he empathetically said no and had nice things to say about McCain and Huckabee. Video below.

New ARG FL Poll

The American Research Group released a poll today showing Huckabee polling in third place in Florida! McCain leads with 29% and Romney comes in second with 23% and Huck in third with 17%. The weird thing about the Florida primary is that the winner, by a billion votes or one vote, wins all of Florida's 50+ delegates. So second place down really doesn't mean too much but Huckabee is still within striking distance so there still is a chance that he could make some major movement, perhaps into first place.
Another thing to keep in mind is that Fred Thompson may be dropping out of the race in the within the next few days. Now Fred and Huck really don't like each other, but at least more then a few Fredheads will jump onto the Huckabee express and Fred finally officially dropping out can do nothing but help Huckabee.
Really, Fred may have been able to win when there was just radio... It really ought to be made a crime to force someone like Fred to run for president. He never really wanted it, and it was all too easy to see. His best line of the whole campaign may have been after he gave a long speech (that cured all those at the event of insomnia) and then ended by asking if he "could have a round of applause..." I think a lot of conservatives were at one point hoping that Fred would be the guy to challenge Guiliani when it was just Romney, McCain and Guiliani (Huck was in single digits and seen as viable as a candidate as Mike Gravel) - and then the Huckaboom happened.

Now Fred's time to exit stage right and leave the race. Rush Limbaugh may cry for weeks but its the smart and right thing to do. The longer Fred stays in, the more divided the conservative base is and the greater chance a moderate like McCain or a liberal like Guiliani gets the GOP nomination.

McCain Wins South Carolina

Fred Thompson ended up insuring a Huckabee loss and McCain win tonight. Other then Huckabee, McCain is my second favorite candidate (Huck is 140% better though -not even close) so tonight's loss isn't crushing - its just not all that great. There still is a chance that Huckabee could rebound, this race has been weird from the beginning and anything could happen.

So the race isn't over, the fight still goes on... Hey, we only lost by about 3% points. If only we had another 17,000 votes... Oh well. As long as Willard doesn't win the world won't blow up - but Huckabee is the right guy for the job.

Wow, Ron Paul beats Rudy Guiliani again! Great going Rudy...

Rhody Delegate Situation

Guess who's leading with the most Rhode Island delegates? Surprise, surprise...

Mike Huckabee

District 2: 22

John McCain

District 2: 18
-Total: 40

Ron Paul
District 1: 14
District 2: 7
-Total: 21

Rudy Guiliani
District 1: 1
District 2: 8

Fred Thompson
District 1: 5
District 2: 4
-Total: 9

Mitt Romney
District 1: 3
District 2: 5
-Total:8

Uncommitted Republican
District 1: 2
District 2: 1
-Total: 3

The reason why these numbers are important is because it basically insures that in the best case circumstances, Mitt Romney can only at the most get eight RI delegates. And that is assuming that all eight of the his delegates collect at least 150 signatures. The same thing applies to Fred Thompson (who is going to pull out Saturday night or Sunday anyways) and Rudy Guiliani. The guy with the most egg in his face has to be Romney though because RI is a state that he should own - he literally was the governor next door - and now he can only muster up eight total delegates? Do we know him too well?

Zapped Chargers

Ouchee! Take a looksee at the San Diego Chargers Wednesday injury list. All six of the injured players are Pro Bowlers and key players on the Bolts.

Did Not Participate in Practice

TE Antonio Gates (toe)*
QB Philip Rivers (knee)*
RB LaDainian Tomlinson (knee)*
DT Jamal Williams (team decision)*

Limited Participation in Practice
OLB Shawne Merriman (illness)*

Full Participation in Practice
FB Lorenzo Neal (fibula)*

Can the Chargers really beat the Patriots with even if only two of the guys on the injury list missed the game (with the exception of Neal, who is one of the best at what he does but not really a playmaker)? We may just see...

*starter

Meanwhile the Patriots injury list for today looks pretty clean with only Mel Mitchell (biceps) and Matt Light (Flu) not practicing and Tom Brady and Steven Neal with limited participation.

Will Rhode Island Actually Count This Year?

According to the Providence Journal, this year, Rhode Island might mean something in the 08 primary election!

The article begins,

"Known for years as the afterthought of American politics, Rhode Island’s March presidential primary may prove meaningful in the 2008 presidential election campaign, particularly if the Republican and Democratic contests remain unsettled after the string of contests on Feb. 5.

“Rhode Island may be very relevant here, and I’m not just saying that,” says Tad Devine, the Providence native and top Democratic consultant who is an expert on the presidential nominating process."

Regarding Huckabee's support in the state,
"Huckabee’s delegates include a number of people who are not GOP activists and [some] longtime party members, including Scott Bill Hirst and Robert Tingle, who has run unsuccessfully against Democratic Sen. Jack Reed."

See the full article here

Again, it would be amazing if Rhode Island would actually have an impact on who was the Democrat's or Republican's candidate in 2008.
Ohio, Texas, and Vermont all have primary's on the same day, March 4, as Rhode Island and all those states, with the exception of Vermont, have far more delegates then Rhode Island.

Here are the delegates up for grabs on March 4th:
Texas:
228 Democrat delegates & and 140 Republican
Ohio:
116 Democrat delegates and the 88 Republican
Rhode Island:
32 Democratic delegates & 20 Republican
Vermont: 23 Democrat delegates and 17 Republican

As you can see, Texas and Ohio mean a whole lot more then Vermont or Rhode Island but on the other hand, 37 delegates could mean a whole lot at the
National Convention.

So will the Ocean State end up counting in 08? We shall see...

Monday McCain Rally at the NH State House

Well late is better then never. I'm going to be doing some backtracking this week on some of the stuff that happened earlier on Saturday - Tuesday so it's not like I just flew out to Michigan or something, it's just old news. Aidan took the footage and spiced it to make a short video (below) of McCain's event on Monday afternoon. In the latter part of the video you can see a big chunk of snow fall from the capital building into the crowd behind the podium that McCain was speaking from. No one was hurt apparently by the mini avalanche and it actually happened again later on. I had a front row standing spot so I got to shake McCain's hand on the way in and out (as did Peter and Aidan) and also along with Aidan got an autograph from the senator. It was a really packed rally, probably around 2,000+ people, but one thing I noticed was that many of people at the rally were either global warming protesters or supporters of other candidates (such as us - although we were rooting for a McCain victory, and more importantly a Romney loss.) who were just there to see McCain. As it turned out fortunately , McCain ended up having enough supporters to win the New Hampshire primary and avert a Romney win.

Here's the video in all of it's glory...

Third in New Hampshire!

Today my whole family and I, excluding my Dad and one older sister, went up to New Hamshire to help out the Huckabee campaign. I ended up seeing Huckabee at three different events, including the victory celebration at the end of the day. And it really was a victory celebration. Third place in a state that was not made to fit Huckabee and where he really never got too much momentum in the polls is really a big thing. Even a forth place finish would have still been a success (that is where Guiliani ended up). Anyways Big Relief, Huge Victory. Now it's on to South Carolina and Michigan.

Here's a short video that someone took with the digital camera I was using (who I don't know). Aidan taped the whole speech and it will probably be on YouTube sometime in the near future.

Anthony Smith: Part Two

As if the Patriots needed any extra motivation for Saturday Night's playoff game vs the Jacksonville Jaguars, Jags defensive end Paul Spicer gave it to the Patriots. After the Pats were caught taping opposing teams signals earlier this year, Spicer was quoted as stated that the NFL should have, "kick them [the Patriots] out of the playoffs or something. Put them on probation; they can't go to no playoff games."

I suppose that means he wasn't very excited about the possibility of meeting the Patriots in the playoffs but on the other hand who is?
